I’m sure you have all heard me complain about my next door neighbour. She’s absolutely awful. She is a single mum of three children, two boys age six and seven and one girl who’s three. Every morning without fail they manage to wake us up, normal between the hours of 5 and 7 but some mornings it can be as early as 4am. Basically they bang, scream and generally just cause a lot of noise, I have been reporting this to our council noise pollution team. I’ve had to call the police several times for incidents like locking her 6 year old son in a dark concrete shed for at least 45 minutes while he begged to be let out or locking him out in the pouring rain and leaving him there. Well this morning at 7.45 I had to call the police, the kids were screaming like they were terrified, it was most definitely not playing.
The police came out and it all went quiet. Then I heard a knock at my door, it was the policeman coming to update me. He basically had a go at me for calling the police and said there was nothing going on. I explained the situation and he said that as I had concerns he would contact social services but I am still not happy. I have sent the following email to the Independent Police Complaints Commission:
I’d like to make a complaint. I placed a call this morning at 7.45, my incident number was 101. My call was regarding my next door neighbour. This is not the first time I have had to call about this incident. There was very loud banging and the kids were crying and screaming. It was so loud in my house that it woke up and frightened my 2 year old son. I could hear all of next doors children screaming as if frightened and very loud banging and shouting from her. A police officer came out and after speaking to her he came to mine. He basically berated me for calling the police. He said that as her kids look fine and she says they were just arguing that I should have called the council. I explained that it definitely did not sound like kids arguing and he continued to explain that it was not safe for him to drive from burslem to sneyd green with blue flashing lights for something that wasn’t a police matter.
My first concern is the children. I have rung several times and honestly believe that the things I hear in my house children should never have to hear. The decision to use blue flashers in high traffic was yours not mine so I do not expect to be made to feel guilty for accessing a public service when I thought it was necessary. I fully believe that eventually something will happen to one of these children, in the meantime I will continue to call when necessary and I expect these children to receive the level of service they deserve. It seems to me that sometimes your officers just can’t be bothered to do the job that they are supposed to.
I am not impressed with this officer at all. I know eventually something will happen to one of these children. The number of times her young daughter has been to a&e in her short life shocks me. She’s not much older than H and has been, I would say, 10 times for burns, cuts and falling off things. H has been twice, once at the recommendation of his doctor when he had gastroenteritis and once for eating no more nails which, I admit, was completely my fault. Anyway… I am eagerly awaiting a reply.
